Hi

Is there a known issue with adding a host to this project?

I have tried 3 or 4 times today as well as 2 times in the last week and I get the BOINC Manager error:

"Failed to add Project
Please try again later"

So, does anyone else have this issue or is it just me?

regards
Tim

Good day.

Do you try to join project just after sighup?
We had an issue with first registered users at the start. We had to delete them.
Or maybe login\pass is not correct?

Thanks for your reply. But there is clearly a problem somewhere on the hosting/server side.

My account is here and working so I do not think my account has been deleted or else how can I login here and post this message?

Or maybe login\pass is not correct?

The BOINC Manager error is BEFORE I can use my username and password.

So, it is the website that has an issue...maybe overloaded server or too little bandwidth for the internet connection?

EDIT: I just tried again and the SAME failure occurs. :-(

UBT - Timbo
Can you show what error BOINC Manager records (issues)?

Maybe this will help termit understand the reason.

Hi Natalia

Thanks for your message.

There are of course so many different parts of the log file that can be viewed.

So, I have guessed at the following, but if other log entry records are required, hopefully someone can advise me?

And for the record, I have NO issue adding other projects with this host...

I think this is where the issue is:

16/01/2025 15:29:43 | | [http] [ID#4] Info: Connection 28450 seems to be dead

So, the server is SO SLOW that the connection from my host just times out...

Tim

Hello Tim!

Thank you for your log entries.
Perhaps they will help termit figure it out.

15:29:43

Please tell me what time it was Moscow time?

I have a guess, perhaps wrong.
At 00:00 Moscow time, the server starts automatically downloading tasks.
The download continues for several hours.

Maybe the server is slow to respond to all requests during the download?

Tim
By the way, at the moment the loading of tasks is finished and will not start until 00:00 Moscow time.

You can try again, if it is not difficult.

Hi Natalia

Thanks for the message.

The time stamps on the log file are MY local time which is GMT (same as UTC in winter/spring months).

And Moscow is GMT/UTC + 3 hours. So, the log entries are around 18:29 Moscow time.

So, I doubt this issue is to do with the downloads taking up CPU resources.

It is more like the number of connections that the server can handle simultaneously...and if there are too many at any one time, then the connection attempt will simply "time out" (hence the 270 second entry in the log).

EDIT: I just tried again (17:58 Moscow time) on a different host in a different location and using a different internet connection - and it failed again.

regards
Tim

OK.

Let's look into history.
As you know, we have a weak server in the BOINC project ODLK.
Have you had a similar problem connecting to this project?

Hi again

I have one host that is currently processing some tasks from ODLK (not ODLK2025)
.
These tasks use odlk3@home 1.0 and for this host, the project was already installed. So receiving, processing and uploading work units is without problems.

And the issue I have is not running the tasks, but I cannot add the ODLK2025 project to the BOINC Manager list.

I can of course, REMOVE the original ODLK project and see if I can add it again.

Then this might prove that either the issue is local to me (with 2 of my hosts) OR that the issue is that the ODLK2025 server is timing out, due to the server CPU being overloaded, or a lack of bandwidth by the internet service provider for the project.

And it is widely known that ODLK uses a very basic server...and if ODLK2025 uses the same or similar hardware, then this really should be upgraded to something better, if the project is going to fulfill your needs to get results for you...

Tim

No, I don't think it's worth doing.
I was interested in the history, that is, did you have problems in the ODLK project at the very beginning of its existence.

And it is widely known that ODLK uses a very basic server...and if ODLK2025 uses the same or similar hardware, then this really should be upgraded to something better, if the project is going to fulfill your needs to get results for you...

Yes.
Do you remember how one cruncher from the US offered us a good server for the ODLK project?
But he said: "Take this server."
How can I take a server in the US?
Only remote server management is possible, but then the server will run on his electricity and he will have to service the server.

It is unlikely that anyone can offer such an option.
Unless for an jubilee... :)
The day after tomorrow I turn 75!
